Dear Leary Families:

We are embarking on a new reading incentive program for our grades 4 and 5 students called “Reading Outside the Box.” Students will be encouraged to choose a category of books and read 4 different chapter books from that list. These books are all in our school library and, in addition, they may be found at the public library. These books are at different reading levels and students should be able to find a list that is “just right” for them. Students are encouraged to pick up these lists from the library or, alternatively, print them off from the website.  Once a list is complete, students can get an adult signature and return the list to the library for a little award and be entered into a monthly draw for some awesome books at our monthly Pride assemblies. These lists are meant to lead our students to new books they might not have read before (and to re-read some favourites as well). These books may be read alone or shared – it doesn’t matter! The program is totally optional and is just for fun – for the love of reading. There are so many categories to choose from that I am sure there will be something for everyone. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the school on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Also, make sure to check back on this website for up-to-date lists of all of the wonderful “Reading Outside the Box” challenges.

Happy reading,

Mrs. Knodel
